About Eagle North Kayak and Us
Michael Shaune is our born and bred Cape Breton guide. With over 15 years of kayaking under his belt, Michael is a certified wilderness first responder, and level 3 sea kayaker under Paddle Canada. He grew up helping his father at the wharf, and spent much of his free time rowing around the harbours in northern Cape Breton. Michael fishes halibute and lobster, runs a sugar bush, cuts wood and paddles around ice flows in the off season.
Jen is a graduate of Lakehead University’s Outdoor Recreation Parks and Tourism School, with minors in geography and biology, and is a certified canoe instructor. Jen has been paddling lakes and rivers since she was child, exploring all around Ontario with her family. When not the water or in the kitchen Jen coaches Jack Rabbit skiing, shares yoga, works at the family maple syruping business and other great projects.
Michael and Jen came together with the help of some magic on the Yukon River in Dawson City, and now share Eagle North (created by Michael’s parents in the 90’s), with their young paddle savvy sons; Liam Sky, Caleb Storm and Callum Rain. You are also likely meet our extended and expanding family of wwoofers, exchange workers and endless relatives. It's a family affair to be sure.
We are all passionate about our business, the outdoors and your experience here. We strive to share the wonders of Cape Breton, in an environmentally sensitive manner. It’s an amazing place, and we truly hope you can share in an amazing experience here.
